Hotels of New York, 1856-1893, 1893 (bulk).

Newspaper clippings, menus, wine lists, and portraits relating to hotels, restaurants, and the hospitality industry in New York City, mainly in the late 19th century. The clippings consist of advertisements for hotels and a few restaurants, as well as articles on individual hotels or restaurants, the cost of running a hotel, or the state of the hotel industry as a whole. Individual hotels shown include the Astor House, the Clinton Hotel, Tammany Hall hotel, the Normandie, Everett House, Brevoort House, and Revere House, among others. Also shown are a few taverns and boarding houses, and a few general scenes of life in New York City in the 1890s. Portraits include William B. Astor, Charles Dickens, and Augustus Toedteberg. Illustrations consist mainly of wood engravings and lithographs (a few in color), with one photograph. Bound in 3/4 morocco with marbled boards and endpapers.
